Roads investment leads to temporary closures in Telford
A stretch of Wombridge Road in Trench will be closed for up to three weeks as Telford & Wrekin Council carries out work to repair and improve it.
The road closed yesterday and the work includes removing and replacing the existing tarmac as well as replacing kerbs, drains and road markings.
These major and essential works are part of a £7m scheme by Telford & Wrekin Council to improve the local environment across the borough – resulting in safer roads and streets.
Another road that will be closed for the same reasons is The Ley, which is between Doseley and Dawley. The road will shut for approximately two weeks on 3 August.
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for Transport, Environment and Community Protection, said: “This is one of the biggest local programmes of works to improve the road network and will result in safer roads with better streetlights, kerbs, drainage and lining.
“I appreciate there is a short term inconvenience for affected residents but we are doing everything we can to ensure they are able to access their properties. The outcome will be a much better local environment for everyone affected.”
Elsewhere, a road that has had to close for emergency reasons is the B5063 between Cotwall Bank and Longdon upon Tern after a big hole appeared in the surface of the road.
An inspection revealed that a sewer had collapsed and the road was shut. Severn Trent Water is now on scene repairing the sewer and diversions are in place.
