A man and a 14-year-old boy were yesterday arrested in Shrewsbury on suspicion of carrying out a sneak-in burglary at a house in the town.

Two arrested on suspicion of carrying out a sneak-in burglary in Shrewsbury

The two intruders entered a house in Bagley Drive yesterday afternoon while the elderly occupant who had left his back door open was taking a nap.

The suspects were challenged and ran off. Police officers investigating the burglary arrested two people nearby a short time later.

An 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station for questioning. They were later given conditional police bail pending further enquiries.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "We were able to make quick arrests in this incident thanks to information being forwarded on 0300 333 3000 about suspicious behaviour.

"If people spot something odd or suspicious they should always follow their instincts and call the police without delay.

"It is also very important that doors and windows are kept secure, even when at home. In hot weather, there is a temptation to leave doors open and to forget to close ground floor windows at night before going to bed."
