Telford & Wrekin Council announce recommended interim Chief Executive
Telford & Wrekin Council has announced that Richard Partington has been recommended by Personnel Board to become the authority’s Interim Chief Executive. The appointment is expected to be formally approved by tonight’s Full Council meeting.

Richard is the council’s current Assistant Chief Executive and he will assume the Interim Chief Executive role.
Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “The council’s Personnel Board interviewed an extremely strong field of five candidates on Tuesday as part of the thorough recruitment process necessary to determine the right person for this challenging role.
“The recommendation of Personnel Board to the Full Council meeting is that Richard Partington should be appointed as the Interim Chief Executive for Telford & Wrekin Council.
“My Cabinet colleagues and I are very much looking forward to working with Richard during the period that the Interim Chief Executive is in post, which will be for a period of six to nine months.
“Richard will use this time to accelerate our progress towards becoming a truly Co-operative Council. This will include undertaking the review of our senior management arrangements.”
Richard started his career in local government as an administrative assistant at North Shropshire District Council.
He joined Telford & Wrekin Council in 1991 and previous roles include Best Value Manager and Head of Policy, Performance and Partnerships. He was also the Project Manager for the creation of Telford & Wrekin Council as a unitary authority between 1996 and 1998.
He has effectively instigated, led and delivered major change within the organisation and across the Local Strategic Partnership.
Richard was born in Wrexham and is a huge fan of Wrexham Football Club. He is a published author, having written a Fever Pitch-style book called The Giant Killers about the club he loves.
Wrexham will be playing AFC Telford United this season in the Blue Square Bet Premier and Richard hopes both clubs get promoted.
