Residents asked to help shape Telford and Wrekin’s future
Residents in Telford & Wrekin are being asked to help “shape the future” as the council develops a new long term plan for the borough.

The plan will set out in a clear way what Telford and Wrekin will be like as a place to live, work and visit in the future. As well as focussing on what needs to improve, the plan will set out aspirations for the borough’s future.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Community Engagement team has already been asking people who live in the borough a range of questions about the things that matter most to them.
These include what they think are the top problems and worries for people in the borough, the main things that need to change, what Telford and Wrekin’s best selling point is and how they would describe it to people who don’t live here.
Some of the answers have been fascinating – with Telford and Wrekin said to have all the advantages of living in a town set within beautiful rural countryside and also described as “a good town wrapped up in problems which don’t let it shine.”
This is all part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s Your Views Matters series of consultations and is called Shaping The Future.
This phase of open consultation will last through the summer to September and will help to identify long term priorities and proposed ambitions for Telford and Wrekin.
Findings will then be reported to the Council’s Cabinet in October and a second phase of consultation will be held early next year before the plan for the future is presented to Council in March 2012 as part of the budget for the 2012/13 financial year.

Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “We are looking for local people in the development of a plan that everyone who lives here can feel a part of and that gives Telford and Wrekin real drive, direction and ambition.
“Telford and Wrekin is a special place to live, work and visit and we want to take the borough to the next level - a prosperous, dynamic and exciting modern town that fully acknowledges its place in history.
“I would hope that all our residents will play their part in helping to shape the future and I look forward to the final results.
“This is all part of our work towards becoming a Co-operative Council, which is about working more closely with residents, staff, partners and other organisations to deliver sustainable services for Telford and Wrekin in co-operation with all stakeholders in the borough.”
