Speed enforcement strengthened on A49 route in Shropshire
The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia is strengthening its speed enforcement activity on the A49 in Shropshire with a series of new mobile speed enforcement sites.

The speed enforcement activity currently undertaken on the A49 at Dorrington is being enhanced with the launch of five new mobile speed camera sites at Leebotwood (40mph), Church Stretton (30mph), Church Stretton (40 mph), Upper Battlefield (50mph) and Hadnall (30mph).
The Safer Roads Partnership say the aim of taking a ‘route approach’ is to encourage compliance with the speed limit along the entire length of the A49 in Shropshire as drivers will not be sure which enforcement sites will be operational at any given time. Speed camera warning signs will be located at regular intervals along the A49 to inform all road users that speed enforcement is active along the route.
Katy Jenkins, Communications Manager at the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia, says:
“The ‘route approach’ we are taking to speed enforcement along the A49 is a forward looking initiative designed to encourage speed limit compliance along the entirety of the road. Motorists using excessive speed compromise the safety of other road users. The strengthening of the enforcement activity will encourage motorists to adopt less risky and more considerate driving behaviours. We will continue to monitor speeds on the A49.”
Kevin Harvey from the Highways Agency, said: "The Highways Agency works to provide safer journeys for road users on the A49 in West Mercia and we support this initiative to improve compliance with speed limits."
Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for road safety, said: “Enforcing speed limits is an important part of a wider approach to protecting the safety of all road users. We are committed to working with our partners to improve road safety and this is one of a range of initiatives, alongside education, training, and improving roads, which are all helping to make the county's roads safer."
