Residents and visitors to Dawley will notice some changes when using King Street as the Council introduces measures to reduce the speed and volume of through traffic.

Dawley's King Street sees road layout improvement

Residents raised concerns about traffic using King Street, following the re-opening of the High Street as part of the Dawley regeneration scheme.

Telford & Wrekin Council has undertaken traffic surveys and consulted local residents and businesses with the result that road layout changes are now being introduced on King Street.

The improvement involves a change of priority at the junction of King Street and Captain Webb Drive and restrictions on traffic travelling south along King Street. All vehicles will still be able to access the car park and Dawley Medical Practice in Webb House, King Street, from Captain Webb Drive. Access beyond the Medical Centre, towards Portley Corner and New Street, is restricted to buses only.

Cllr Hilda Rhodes, Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Community Protection said, “A priority for the Council is to listen to the views of residents. This change to the way traffic flows in Dawley is an excellent example of where we have listened and worked together to make improvements for the safety of pedestrians and motorists whilst retaining access to important local facilities.”

These changes have been introduced using experimental powers and will be monitored to determine how successful the measures are in reducing the speed and volume of traffic before a decision is made to make the changes permanent.
