Motorists in Shropshire have been reminded their vehicles are more likely to be targeted by thieves if they leave valuables on show.

Shrewsbury vehicles targeted by thieves

The warning follows two breakins at a street car park at The Ridings, Bicton Heath, Shrewsbury.

Thieves forced the driver's door of a white Citroen Berlingo car drived van between 11pm on Saturday and 10.30am yesterday. They stole a Navman satellite navigation system worth £100 which had been left on display inside and also caused £200 damage.

In another overnight incident at the same location, a red Renault Clio was broken into. Ten CDs worth £80 were stolen from the footwell together with £30 from a purse left on the front passenger seat.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson appealed for witnesses to contact Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000, or the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.

The spokesperson also urged motorists not to leave anything of value on show in parked vehicles, and where possible to remove items, especially overnight.

"If property is left in a vehicle, especially if visible, then the chances of being broken into are greatly increased."
