Will Gwen be the oldest person to attend Shrewsbury flower show?
Leading caravan dealership Salop Leisure has donated a Shrewsbury Flower Show ticket to a centenarian who could set a new record at next weekend’s popular event.

When Gwen Jones, who is 101 next month, received the surprise gift when visiting Salop Leisure’s headquarters at Emstrey with her daughter Sylvia Spencer, of College Road, Shrewsbury, to buy tickets for the show.
“When Mrs Jones told us she was 101, we all found it absolutely amazing,” said Salop Leisure’s chairman Tony Bywater. “It is wonderful to see her looking so fit and well. Surely, she will be setting a record as the oldest person to attend the flower show?”
Mrs Spencer said her mum has attended Shrewsbury Flower Show for many years and particularly enjoys visiting the flower tent and listening to the music. The secret of her mum’s longevity is remaining active.
Salop Leisure is celebrating 25 years of show sponsorship this year and will include the new Willerby Shrewsbury caravan holiday home, which has been exclusively designed by and for the company, on its stand.
Author and former award-winning Shrewsbury Chronicle editor John Butterworth will also be available to sign copies of his book about the history of Shrewsbury’s famous Lion Hotel.
