Dawley supports market move back to High Street
Residents, market traders and business people in Dawley have come out overwhelmingly in favour of the town’s market moving back into the High Street – saying this will be a major boost for the economy.

Telford & Wrekin Council has carried out a consultation with residents attending the market and also those shopping in the town centre over the past couple of weeks.
More than 96 per cent of those who responded said that the High Street of Dawley would massively benefit from the market moving back in and that the market itself would grow as a result of the move.
The market had to be moved to a temporary site while regeneration of the town centre took place.
The recent survey was carried out as part of the council’s Your Views Matter series of consultations to ensure that local residents were fully behind a move back into the High Street.
Ward members and parish councillors joined council staff on the streets of Dawley to encourage local people to fill in the survey.
Opinion was sharply divided on the merits of people trading from car boots as part of the market, with some saying they would prefer car boots not to be there at all and others saying the numbers of them should be restricted.
The survey also asked what goods and products residents would like to see for sale at the market. Responses included clothes, a variety of foods, household goods, arts, crafts, flowers and cosmetics.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Co-operative Council and Partnerships, said: “The people of Dawley have spoken and we are working actively to get the market to be moved back into the High Street as soon as possible.
“The survey has provided us with lots of useful feedback and information about what residents want to see at the market and ideas as to how we can make it even better and use the market to help improve trading conditions for permanent businesses in the town.”
