Thousands set to visit Shrewsbury Flower Show
Thousands of people are expected to descend on The Quarry Park in Shrewsbury over the next two days for the annual Shrewsbury Flower Show.

The Quarry Marquee is brimming with 44 national exhibitors displaying their large collections of plants and flowers – from Cactus and Chrysanthemum, to Hostas and Herbs, together with more rare and exotic species creating a riot of colour and inspiration for visitors.
Floral Chairman, Gordon Parry said: “Every year we aim to offer visitors new and innovative displays, from talented growers and gardeners, which tap into modern planting trends. We are very excited to see what the new exhibitors have to offer and the bar has really been raised this year with nine exhibitors celebrating their Gold wins at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show.”
The Severn Marquee, which is home to the amateur, has also attracted new exhibitors and this year will feature a unique display by The Silk Farm, Comberton, specialising in the rearing of Samia ricini silkmoth, also known as Peace Silk. This display will enable the general public
to see first hand how this soft luxurious material is produced.
Home to the country’s finest amateur horticulturalists, the Severn Marquee presents displays where months of care, attention and love have been poured into creating wonderful blooms and arrangements.
BBC TV’s resident gardening expert, Chris Beardshaw will also be on hand to offer expert advice and guidance in the Dingle Marquee.
This year, alongside the best in garden design and planting, there will be heart stopping entertainment with cookery demonstrations from celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo and hosted by BBC radio Shropshire’s Jim Hawkins, the Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team and medieval jousters The Knights of the Damned will also be performing at the show.
Award for Heroes
Two serving Army NCOs, will today be awarded the Captain Webb Medal, a civilian award in recognition of outstanding bravery by a Shropshire Citizen in the Members Pavillion at the Flower Show.
The award was first instituted by Captain Adrian Jones, the Society's President, in 1916, in honour of Captain Matthew Webb. The last such award was made to PC Ricky Gray, who was shot dead in 2008 whilst responding to an emergency call in Shrewsbury.
New Flower Launch

The Roualeyn Nursery, Trefriw, Conwy, will be launching their new variety of Fuchsia at this year’s Show - the bright white, eye-catching Roualeyns White Gold. The flower took over three years to create and will take pride of place in the nursery’s exhibit at stand 29 in the Quarry Marquee.
Plant Heritage Group Gardens for Gold
This year is the 17th year that the county branch of Plant Heritage is exhibiting at the world famous Shrewsbury Flower Show.
Last year the garden exhibit won many awards, including the William Adams Gold Cup for the finest display featuring water, and the Shrewsbury Cup for the finest display of hardy plants and flowers.
The exhibition garden has been designed again by last year’s award winner – Nancy Estrey – and has to be constructed in little over a week.
The county group of Plant Heritage is now in its 26th year.
