The body of a man was today recovered by Police after being spotted in the River Severn. The man's body was discovered by a member of the public near Kingsland Bridge in Shrewsbury at around midday.

A major search has been ongoing for 27-year-old Shrewsbury man Mark Hodnett who went missing in the early hours of Saturday after leaving a local nightclub.

His shirt and his mobile phone were found close to the River Severn in an area of the Quarry soon after police launched their search for him on Saturday morning.

Police were also investigating a report from a member of the public of someone briefly seen struggling in the river at around 5am on Saturday.

Hundreds of condolence messages are being left on a specially created Facebook group which was set up to help find missing Mark Hodnett.

The body has yet to be identified.
