Residents urged to return form and not lose the right to vote in 2012

Voter registration forms will soon be dropping through every letterbox across Telford and Wrekin.

Residents urged to return form and not lose the right to vote in 2012

People are being urged to return them as soon as possible to ensure they are eligible to vote in future elections.

Telford and Wrekin Returning Officer, Jonathan Eatough and his staff will be sending forms to all households in the borough over the coming weeks to compile the electoral register. Every household should receive a form by 5 September.

Jonathan Eatough says: “Registering to vote is very simple. All people have to do is update the annual canvass form with the details of everyone in the household who is eligible to vote and return it to the Council as soon as possible. If peoples details have not changed they can also reply by text, phone or internet.

“There was a lot of interest in this year’s local elections and referendum and we were pleased with the increase in registration shortly before polling day. However, some people may not realise that they have to register every year.

“It is important that the registration form is completed and returned so everyone who is eligible to vote can take part in any upcoming elections. Being on the electoral register also makes it easier to open customer, savings or credit accounts.”

On the electoral registration form people can opt to have their details excluded from the edited register. This will mean details cannot be bought by individuals and commercial organisations other than lawful credit referencing agencies.

For more information contact your local Electoral Registration Officer on 01952 383204.
