An inquest was opened this afternoon on Mark Edward Hodnett, aged 27, of Grange Road, Shrewsbury, whose body was recovered from the River Severn in Shrewsbury last week.

Inquest opened following death of Shrewsbury man Mark Hodnett

It was opened by the coroner for mid and north Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, who heard evidence of identification before adjourning the hearing to a future date.

Mr Hodnett failed to return home after a night out in Shrewsbury on Friday 12th August. He was last seen on CCTV during the early hours of Saturday leaving the C21 nightclub in Abbey Foregate and heading into Shrewsbury town centre.

At around 5am on Saturday a member of the public reported seeing someone seen struggling in the river close to The Quarry.

After Mark’s failure to return home a search was launched by police who discovered his shirt and his mobile phone close to the River Severn in The Quarry.

His body was discovered by member of the public near Kingsland Bridge in Shrewsbury.
