Police are linking three incidents of criminal damage to property in Wem which occured over Tuesday night.

Police Investigate Criminal Damage In Wem

Damage was caused to a parked van, a building and to fencing at locations in or near the town's business park.

Police have been checking CCTV film as part of their investigation and have appealed for information to help identify the offenders.

PC Diane Langford, one of the investigating officers, said: "The front windscreen of a Ford Transit van was smashed by bricks at Welch and Phillips in New Street close to Wem Business Park.

"Two windows were also smashed and a cast iron drainpipe damaged at The Old Library in Aston Street and six fence panels at Wem Bowling Club in Bowen's Field have been smashed."

She said the total estimated damage amounted to between £500 and £1,000.

"This is wanton criminality at three locations within a short distance of each other. It occurred late Tuesday night or in the early hours of Wednesday and I will be checking CCTV film to help identify those responsible.

"I am also appealing for any information from the public which might assist in identifying the culprits. The contact number at Wem police station is 0300 333 3000."

PC Langford added that a lump hammer possibly used to cause the damage at The Old Library was found nearby. "It may have been stolen and we are anxious to trace its owners. The hammer is quite distinctive with leather on the one side and brass on the other and of a type used by panel beaters."

Information can also be forwarded to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
