Police officers in Telford are appealing for witnesses following two incidents in Telford that they believe are linked.

Telford Road Rage Incident And Assault

The two incidents occurred between 2.45pm and 3.25pm on Wednesday.

The first incident occurred sometime between 2.45pm and 3.05pm on the A442 near Madeley. As the victim - a 45-year-old man - joined the A442 at Madeley in his car to travel towards Telford town centre, he suddenly became aware that a Y registered, silver Vauxhall Vectra was tailgating him. The Vectra - which is believed to have had a female driver - then tried to overtake the victim where there was no space on the slip road.

When the Vectra finally got past - by undertaking - the male passenger shouted abuse at the victim and made numerous threats to him. The Vectra then suddenly slammed on its brakes and came to a halt on the carriageway right in front of the victim's car. He was forced to come to an immediate halt to avoid a collision.

A man quickly got out of the Vectra, made his way towards the victim's car and then made further threats. After making the threats he returned to the Vectra and this car then sped off before exiting the A442 at the Greyhound interchange.

A police spokesman said:

"This incident was extremely unusual and a short time later a second incident occurred that we are also linking the same silver Vectra with.

"Sometime between 3.05pm and 3.20pm, a 16-year-old boy - who was walking with his family along Holyhead Road in Oakengates - was assaulted by an unknown man.

"Police believe that the boy's family became innocently involved in a dispute between a man and a woman they did not know and that the 16-year-old lad was assaulted as the man tried to get to the woman.

"Following the assault the family quickly moved away from the man and the woman, who themselves continued to shout abuse at each other.

"Eventually the man and the woman got into a Y reg, silver Vauxhall Vectra that was parked on the side of the road. The descriptions of the man and woman involved in this incident are very similar to those given for the occupants of the Vectra on the A442.

"A 28-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of a number of public orders offences in connection with these incidents and they have now been released on police bail.

"Investigating officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed either of these incidents, or who may know any of the individuals involved.

"Anyone who witnessed, or who has information about either of these incidents is asked to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000.

Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously 0800 555 111.
