Police are seeking witnesses after a 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with a puncture wound to his chest.

Man injured in Shrewsbury street confrontation

The 19-year-old was treated at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for a minor wound before discharging himself following a confrontation with another man in Dale Road, Monkmoor at around 2.45am on Saturday.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said today: "We are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact Shrewsbury CID on 0300 333 3000.

"It appears to have happened when the injured man and his friend approached a male and female asking for a light for a cigarette. An altercation took place in which he received a puncture wound to his chest."

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, causing grievous bodily harm.
