A 31-year-old woman was attacked by a man whilst walking home in Bridgnorth on Sunday night.

The woman was grabbed from behind and pushed to the ground at around 9.15pm on Sunday near the Fox pub which leads up to Morfe Road.

She was halfway up the steps close to where they are intersected by another alleyway when she was grabbed from behind. She struggled with the man and managed to break free and run off after kicking him in the groin.

She received some minor scratches and bruising but was not seriously hurt.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "This was a serious incident and we are appealing for any information which might help us trace the offender.

"It was an unprovoked attack by a man unknown to the victim. Fortunately, she was able to fight him off and was not seriously hurt."

"We are asking people to contact Bridgnorth police station on 0300 333 3000 if they saw anything which might be linked to this incident. In particular, we are appealing for witnesses who might have seen the assailant either before the assault or as he made off," said the police spokesperson.

The man is described as white, in his early twenties, tall and very slim with dark hair and distinctive bushy eyebrows. He was wearing a dark blue hooded top and dark trousers or jeans.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
