Arrest made following Telford cannabis factory discovery
A cannabis factory has been discovered by police at an address in Telford this morning.
One man was arrested by officers following the discovery at a property in Bembridge in Brookside shortly after 9am today.
Officers from the South Telford Local Policing Team visited the address as they attempted to make enquiries in relation to a separate ongoing investigation.
But as police carried out their enquiries they discovered a number of cannabis plants growing under a hydroponics system.
The plants - up to 30 in total - and the hydroponics set up are currently being dismantled by police and will be seized for further forensic examination. The potential street value is estimated to be around £20,000.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis and is being questioned by police at Malinsgate Police Station.
Police Constable Berwyn Pratt, of the Local Policing Team, said: "We visited the address in order to carry out enquiries in relation to another matter. But following some excellent detective work, a hydroponics system - with plants growing in liquid - was discovered.
"Police are still at the scene dismantling the unit and when this has been completed, the plants and the hydroponics system will be seized and taken away for further examination."
He added: "Targeting people involved in the use of and supply of drugs is a top priority for us, so today's discovery is to be welcomed."
