A 16-year-old youth from Shrewsbury has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life and witness intimidation.

Teenager arrested following arson attack on Shrewsbury home

The youth was charged with the offences following an arson attack on a home in Whitehouse Gardens, Ditherington which caused smoke and fire damage.

The incident happened at around 11am on Friday, the youth was remanded in custody and will appear before Shrewsbury magistrates on Friday.

Plastic panels beneath a window at the back of the premises were set alight. The fire spread up the wall to a window, causing the glass to crack, before spreading to curtains and a bedroom.

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service quickly dealt with the fire but the bedroom and hallways were severely smoke-damaged.

Police launched an investigation and have appealed for people who spotted anything suspicious in the locality at the time to contact Detective Constable Oliver Ewels at Shrewsbury CID on 0300 333 3000, or the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
