Telford child sex case jury discharged
The trial of nine men from Telford who faced a number of allegations involving child prostitution and sexual exploitation has today collapsed.
The jury was discharged by Judge Robin Onions at Stafford Crown Court after hearing the case for more than three months.
Judge Onions discharged the jury of seven women and five men from returning verdicts on a total of 49 charges for legal reasons.
The trial began following arrests made during a West Mercia Police investigation, codenamed Operation Chalice.
A court hearing for Operation Chalice will take place at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Tues 20th September. During the hearing the Crown Prosecution Service will announce whether they intend to ask for a new trial date to be fixed.
