Shropshire anti-cuts campaign announces latest member

Local anti-cuts campaign group Shropshire Fights Back has announced their latest member is Joyce Brand, mother of comedienne Jo.

Ludlow-based Joyce contacted the group after becoming angry about the treatment of Shropshire Council employees.

Joyce says: “I believe Shropshire has been targeted as a test-bed for cuts and redundancies that are predicated on an agenda that is dogma based rather than on a need to put local government finances in good order. It's important that the people of Shropshire make a stand against this at our local council so that this policy is not rolled-out nationwide.”

Jayne McDermott, a member of Shropshire Fights Back said: “It's fantastic when any member of the community joins the anti-cuts campaign through the website but Joyce comes with a past history of campaigning against what she sees as an ideologically driven cuts policy.

“Joyce has also brought along a wealth of new ideas to the group to help get the message across that the cuts are too deep and too savage and will hit the poorest hardest. We look forward to working with her.”

Shropshire Fights Back is a local anti-cuts group set up by a Shropshire housewife angry about the threat from government cuts to vulnerable Shropshire residents. The website www.shropshirefightsback.org.uk has members from all over Shropshire and further afield, and has contacts with other anti-cuts groups all over the country.
