Two arrested in connection with car theft in Telford

A Toyota Yaris was stolen from the property, along with a laptop computer and two mobile phones some time between 1am and 3am today.

Officers on patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle in the Dawley area and a suspect was arrested.

He was taken to Malinsgate Police Station for questioning, where he remains.

Another 20 year-old man was arrested later this morning in the Randlay area. He is also being questioned by detectives in connection with the burglary in Morgan Way in Ketley.

The Toyota Yaris has been recovered by police and is being forensically examined by officers.

Detective Inspector Pete Brophy said that the prevention and investigation of household burglaries was a top priority for West Mercia Police. He said that an operation - codenamed Project Enzo - was underway to deal with car theft burglaries and warned offenders that they will be caught and dealt with robustly.

He said: "Officers are reviewing and investigating all the recent reports of burglary where vehicles have been taken.

"We will be looking at a number of suspects and focussing upon these people.

"Breaking into people's homes while they are asleep and stealing their car and other valuables is a despicable offence, which causes a significant amount of upset to the victim.

"Officers will leave no stone unturned until those responsible are brought to justice."

He added: "Householders can reduce their chances of being targeted by keeping their car keys as secure as possible.

"Lock downstairs windows before you go to bed and don't leave your front door unlocked for relatives who are out and about - it's much safer to give them a key."
