Hope House Hospice to benifit from antiques valuation day in Bridgnorth
Bridgnorth Cricket Club, a leading fine art auction house and a children’s hospice are joining forces for a charity antiques valuation day later this month.
A team of antiques experts from Shrewsbury-based Halls will be holding the event in the Bridgnorth Cricket Clubhouse to raise money for Hope House on Friday, September 23 from 10am to 2pm.
The experts will be available to give appraisals of fine and decorative art, silver, jewellery, ceramics, small pieces of furniture, militaria and collectibles in exchange for a contribution of £2 per item. All the money will go to Hope House children’s hospice at Morda, near Oswestry.
The people of Bridgnorth and surrounding area are being encouraged to check their storerooms and attics for forgotten items that might be worth a small fortune. The valuers are happy to view photographs of larger items or they can make a home visit following the event.
Jeremy Lamond, Halls’ fine art director, emphasised the importance of homeowners seeking up to date valuations for their valuables to ensure that they are accurately insured in the event of loss.
With gold and silver prices running at record levels, he warned, many people may be underinsured. New valuations were also needed for antique items, particularly of Chinese origin, due to the buoyant market.
“The exciting part of holding these charity valuation days is that we have no idea what is going to turn up,” said Mr Lamond.
“In the past, we have discovered many valuable items, including a watercolour by famous Egyptologist Howard Carter, which sold for £13,000 at auction.”
The valuation event has been organised by Hope House ambassador Ken Arch, who lives in Bridgnorth and is encouraging local people to turn out in force to support the chariity.
“Hopefully, the team from Halls will uncover a number of valuable items during the event in Bridgnorth,” he said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for people to have their valuables professionally valued and at the same time raise money for Hope House.
“In the current climate we need to raise money for essentials and are very grateful to Halls and Bridgnorth Cricket Club for their help. Just £125 will ensure that a specially trained children’s nurse can help families look after their child at home in their final hours and it would be fantastic if we could raise this on the day.”
