Don’t be surprised if you bump into Darth Vader, Han Solo, Chewbaca and the glamorous Princess Leia in Shrewsbury today.

Double take as Star Wars characters are seen in Shrewsbury

The force will be with staff at HMV in the Pride Hill Shopping Centre as they celebrate the launch of the new Star Wars Complete Boxed Set on Blueray by dressing up as the stars from the classic space opera.

It’s 34 years since Luke Skywalker first wielded his light sabre long, long ago on a galaxy far, far away but time will warp back as manager Jim Gibbins and the rest of the HMV employees get into the spirit of the iconic sci-fi epic.

Jim said: “This is a landmark launch and we really want to get into the spirit of things because Star Wars changed how cinema was made and with technology today and Blueray you can get a real cinematic experience in your own home.

“I think the staff are all really looking forward to it. I’m not sure about R2D2 and whether we’ve got anyone small enough to fill that role but Darth Vader, Princess Leia and the other main characters should be here.

“It’s just a classic series and this brings them all together in one set for the first tiem ever so we will be open at 8am on Monday with the music going and the costumes so may the Force be with us.”

Nicholas Pitt, Centre Director of the Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres, said: “It’s great when something like this happens and shopping becomes showbiz.

“What better way to liven up a Monday morning than to come face to face with Darth Vader. I’m sure it will be a lot of fun and I wouldn’t be surprised to see queues for what is a real retail event.”
