Two 20 year-old men have been charged with a car theft burglary at a home in Telford.

Two charged over car key burglaries in Telford

The two men - from the Telford area - were arrested on Friday following an incident at an address in Ketley.

Thieves broke into a home in Morgan Way and stole the keys to a Toyota Yaris, which was parked outside, and stole a laptop computer and two mobile phones. The vehicle was also stolen.

Following enquiries by police two men were arrested. They were taken to Malinsgate Police Station for questioning where they were both later charged with burglary and theft.

The pair are due to appear before Telford Magistrates Court this morning.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a further two car key burglaries that occurred in Telford during the weekend.

Thieves broke into an address in Wellsfield in Woodside some time between 6pm on Saturday and 9.20am on Sunday.

Offenders searched the house and stole the keys to a blue BMW 320. Thieves escaped in the BMW.

Then some time between 12.15am and 7.45am on Sunday offenders forced their way into a property in Southall Road in Dawley and searched downstairs. They stole keys to a black BMW 730. Offenders fled in the BMW.

Householders are urged to keep their car keys as secure as possible and to lock downstairs windows before they go to bed to reduce their chances of being targeted by car key thieves.

Police in Telford are currently under taking an operation - codenamed Project Enzo - to deal robustly with reports of burglaries where car keys have been stolen.

Members of the public are being urged to support the operation by reporting any suspicious activity to police.
Anyone who sees any suspicious activity that could help police with their enquiries should contact Telford Police on 0300 333 3000.
