Police have today begun an investigation after thieves rammed into a north Shropshire store and removed an ATM cash machine overnight.

Thieves steal cash machine in Whitchurch ram raid

The offenders used a vehicle to ram the outer shutter of the Co-op store in Wrexham Road, Whitchurch, breaking into the store before making off with the cash machine.

Police say at least two vehicles and four men were involved in the incident, which happened around 4am this morning.

A Toyota 4x4 vehicle was used to ram the outer shutter before the offenders smashed the glass and put a large strap around the ATM machine and pulled it out of the store.

The cash machine was loaded on to a red car before driving off towards Wrexham with the Toyota, which was later found nearby in Chemistry.

The offenders are described as men wearing dark clothing with hooded tops and scarves or masks covering their faces.

Police are studying CCTV and are interested in speaking to any witnesses who were at the Co-op or saw the Toyota being abandoned to call Market Drayton police station on 0300 333 3000.

Callers who wish to pass on information anonymously can call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
