Jewellery worth thousands of pounds has been stolen after thieves forced their way into a property in Robin Lane in Edgmond.

Jewellery stolen in Newport house burglary

Thieves forced entry to the home and carried out an untidy search of all of the upstairs bedrooms some time between 12.15pm and 9.15pm on Friday.

Items stolen include a red jewellery box, a platinum diamond bracelet, a gold emerald bracelet with a stone on top, a gold half sovereign, a brooch which is described as having a pointed pearl flower with tiny stones, a heavy gold wedding ring, bevelled in barrel fashion and a diamond and emerald cluster ring. The emerald is surrounded by a number of diamonds. An assortment of brooches was also stolen.

Police are investigating the burglary and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "The burglary happened during the day while the homeowners were out.

"We would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious people or vehicles in the area at the time to come forward and speak to us.

"It is highly likely that thieves will try and sell the jewellery on so we would urge people in the jewellery trade and people offered jewellery for sale in suspicious circumstances to be vigilant and to report any suspect behaviour to us.

"The stolen jewellery is of sentimental value to the victim and the individual is desperate for it to be returned."

Anyone with information about the jewellery or the break-in should contact Telford Police on 0300 333 3000. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
