Shropshire landlord’s funding success provides new homes and new jobs
Plans to develop 1,000 new affordable homes over the next four years has been given a massive boost after The Wrekin Housing Trust secured over £6.5million grant funding through the Government’s new Affordable Homes Programme.
The Trust is to become the first housing association working across Shropshire and Telford to enter into a contract with the Homes and Communities Agency to secure the funding, which will enable it to deliver 322 new homes across Telford and Shropshire, contributing to the 1,000 homes the Trust has planned.
The grant funding will allow much needed homes in rural areas to be built for local people, purpose built accommodation for older people as well as development on brownfield sites contributing to the regeneration of urban areas.
David Orr, Chief Executive of the NHF said: "If we want growth in the economy and want people to be well housed, we have no alternative other than building a substantial number of new homes. Every 1,000 new homes built contributes to 7,500 jobs. This means that in addition to building much needed new homes, the Trust is contributing substantially to the local economy”.
Nicola Marshall, Head of Midlands West at the HCA said; “This agreement is great news as it will see much-needed new homes delivered across Shropshire and Telford and make a significant difference to the local communities in which we work.
