A total of 33 sacks of rubbish and 2,500kg of dirt and leaves were collected by schoolpupils, a community support officer and Shropshire Council officers as part of a deep clean of Broseley last week.

33 sacks of rubbish collected as part of Broseley deep clean

The team, community support officer and pupils from Broseley CE Primary School focused on the area around the school, including the Birchmeadow Playing Fields.

The litter pick was organised by the council’s environmental maintenance team with help from its housing team, as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign, and it was carried out in addition to their routine street cleaning schedule.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:

“It’s great to see young people getting involved in keeping their local community clean and tidy.

“I hope their involvement will encourage more people to join our teams in the future.”

Jean Jones, Shropshire Councillor for Broseley, said:

“I would like to thank the pupils of Broseley CE Primary School for all their work during the recent litter pick and for setting a good example for the rest of the community to follow.”

To report a problem of litter in Shropshire or to organise a community litter pick please call 0345 678 9006 or vist the council’s website.

The Big Tidy Up campaign is a national initiative encouraging residents, voluntary groups and organisations to carry out litter picks in their area.
