Work restarts on new Academy building in Telford
Work has resumed on the construction of the new Abraham Darby Academy building at the Abraham Darby Sports and Learning Community site.

Construction was halted by the unexpected collapse of the canopy at the front of the building last month and the subsequent, ongoing investigation into the cause.
When completed The Abraham Darby Sports and Learning Community will incorporate the new Abraham Darby Academy, a relocated Woodlands Primary School, a leisure centre and community and health facilities.
Work has been continuing on the primary school and leisure buildings since the incident and now construction workers from contractor Kier Moss have been given the all clear to recommence work on the new Academy.
Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “I’m really pleased that work has re-started on site. It is good news that the primary school and leisure facilities were unaffected by the canopy incident and that work was able to continue.
“The opening of the Academy will be delayed, but Telford & Wrekin Council and the Academy are working closely with Kier Moss to ensure that the new build, once completed, is handed over at an appropriate time for both pupils and teaching staff.”
Remedial works will now be carried out to the brickwork and windows at the front of the Academy and throughout this time, residents will continue to have access to their homes.
Engineers are conducting an investigation on site on behalf of the Council, alongside the Health and Safety Executive enquiry. Telford & Wrekin Council’s Community Engagement Team is working alongside colleagues from contractor Kier Moss to ensure that local residents are kept fully informed about how the work is progressing.
