Fire safety advice will be on the shopping list for visitors to two Shropshire supermarkets in Telford and Shrewsbury all next week.

Fire safety advice on offer for Shropshire shoppers

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has linked up with Sainsbury’s stores in the Telford Retail Park and at Shrewsbury’s Meole Brace to get important lifesaving tips to shoppers.

It is all part of the national shopping chains fire safety week running all this week from October 9 to 15, held for the second year running after last year’s successful event.

Firefighters and Community Fire Safety officers will tell shoppers about the importance of closing doors in the home to prevent a spread of fire, to test smoke alarms weekly and not to leave pans on the cooker unattended.

“We received a letter from Sainsbury’s saying last year’s national event enabled fire and rescue services across the country to engage with some vulnerable members of the public and felt it was a valuable initiative,” said Delyth Humphreys, Vulnerable Person’s Officer in the brigade’s fire safety department.

Lisa Miller, of Sainsbury’s said “We are really pleased to be involved with this. It was a very popular event last year. We want to thank Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service for their support for our customers.”
