The Wrekin Housing Trust provides further affordable housing

The Wrekin Housing Trust is continuing to provide quality affordable homes across Shropshire and Staffordshire by unveiling brand new homes in Woore, near Market Drayton.

The Wrekin Housing Trust provides further affordable housing

The Trust now has three new family homes at the Pipe Gate development and tenants have now moved in. One of the homes, a three-bedroom property, was let through the Trust’s In Reach scheme, which provides the opportunity to rent a home and buy a share later.

The other two homes both have two-bedrooms and these have been made available for rent through Choose Your Home, which allows customers to ‘bid’ for homes they are interested in. A local lettings plan was in place to ensure that the homes have all been let to people with a local connection to Woore.

One of the new tenants is Mrs Lawton, who shares her new two-bedroom home with her sixteen year old son. Mrs Lawton lived locally and is thrilled to have moved to one of the Trust’s new homes. She said: “I was really pleased to get this new house, it’s just a lovely home to live in and in a great location. I think it’s great that the Trust is providing affordable housing in rural areas as it’s in really short supply.”

These new homes will be followed by another two InReach homes at Pipe Gate next year and the Trust will also be providing seven properties at Candle Lane in Woore.

Stephen Clifford, Chair of Woore Parish Council, said of the new properties provided for the area: “The Parish Council is delighted to welcome the Trust to provide social and affordable housing in this area, with its first properties in a development where we campaigned, throughout the planning process, for a greater proportion of such housing.”

“We are also very happy that the Trust will soon be managing other properties on the Candle Lane site, now being built, where we pressed for similar provision. It is one of the key policies of this Council to increase the supply of affordable housing in Woore and Pipegate, so that young local people can continue to live and work in our village.”

The Trust will be providing many other homes in Shropshire over the next few years, including homes in Shrewsbury, Shifnal and Newport, as well as increasing their large portfolio of new homes across the Telford & Wrekin area.
The Trust has also recently been successful in securing HCA funding to provide 322 new homes between 2011 and 2015, which will contribute to the 1000 new homes the Trust has planned over the same period, including housing provision in rural areas.
