Speed limit to be enforced on St Martin’s Road in Gobowen
The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia is launching a new speed enforcement site on St Martin’s Road in Gobowen, near Oswestry, as part of its ‘Community Concern’ programme following requests from the Parish Council to address the problem of speeding vehicles.

The Parish Council raised their concerns with the Safer Roads Partnership about the dangers posed by the number of drivers speeding along the road, which has a 30mph speed limit, and asked for action to be taken to address the situation and improve the safety of the road.
Data collected by the Safer Roads Partnership shows a compliance problem on the road supporting the need for enforcement. The data collected indicated that almost half of all drivers (46%) exceed the speed limit and 15% of vehicles travel above 38.4mph.
In response to the safety concerns raised, a new mobile speed enforcement site is being launched as part of the ‘Community Concern’ programme with the aim of improving driver compliance with the 30 mph speed limit. A mobile speed camera will operate from a speed camera van the week commencing 24 October 2011. The site will be operational for a minimum period of six months and data will be collected during this time to assess the impact of enforcement on speeds and driver behaviour.
Katy Jenkins of the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia said: “The Community Concern enforcement programme enables us to respond to requests from the local community for speed enforcement provided the data shows an enforceable speeding problem. We would urge all vehicles using St Martin’s Road in Gobowen to slow down and consider the safety of other road users.”
The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia is part of West Mercia Police and works in partnership with nine partner agencies to reduce casualties and make the roads safer for all users in West Mercia through targeted communication, education and training together with enforcement.
