Thieves have stolen roofing metal from the front door porches of two homes in Market Drayton.

Metal thieves target Market Drayton homes

The metal was stolen from homes in Chestnut Road and Salisbury Hill View late on Tuesday night or during the early hours of yesterday.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Even though these thefts happened during the hours of darkness, the offenders would have been at the premises for some time and would have been quite conspicuous.

"We are hoping they were spotted in the process of taking the metal or have since offered it for sale.

"We would urge anyone with information to assist the investigation to contact Market Drayton police station on 0300 333 3000. Information can also be given through the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111."

A small amount of lead measuring two feet by three feet was removed from the flat roof of the porch at a house in Chestnut Road between 11.30pm Tuesday and 8.30am yesterday.

Thieves also entered the front garden of a house in Salisbury Hill View and stole protective cladding measuring six feet by three feet from the porch. They moved a garden bench to reach the metal above the front door and also stole an 18-inch grey concrete owl ornament.
