An outline planning application that proposes to rebuild Ercall Wood Technology College has been registered.

Outline planning application registered for Ercall Wood Technology College

If approved, the proposals include the construction of a new, state-of-the-art secondary school with the later demolition of the existing Ercall Wood Technology College; to ensure minimal disruption to the pupils and teachers. The replacement school would also provide additional sporting facilities and encourage community use.

The outline planning application gives further details of proposed residential development sites off Golf Links Lane and Bayley Road. The sale of these residential sites will help finance the complete redevelopment as opposed to a limited refurbishment. New school car parking and drop off zones are also included as part of the wider development as is informal public open space also located off Bayley Road.

The outline planning application is now up for 13 weeks of consultation before a decision will be made by Telford & Wrekin’s Plans Board.

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “The chance to rebuild yet another school in the borough would be fantastic opportunity. The scheme has been fully supported by the school and its governors. Rebuilding the scheme would cause minimal disruption in comparison to the original four year plan to extensively remodel the school and relocate pupils into costly, temporary accommodation for a lengthy period.

"The proposals take into consideration road lay outs and plans for better drop off and pick up points around the school site and improved school parking arrangements which would significantly reduce the disruption to local residents. Traffic surveys have been carried out prior to the outline planning application being submitted and these support the view that the impact of traffic from a new school and housing development to the Holyhead Road would be minimal.

"We would encourage anyone with an interest in the proposals to put their comments forward to the planning team. The Council has already undertaken well attended exhibitions at the school and Watling Community Centre in Arleston and amendments to the application have been made in response to a number of issues raised by the local community.

"We want to fully consider the proposals and welcome any comments that are put forward by local people. These will be reviewed by our planning team and submitted for a final decision by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Plans Board”.

Members of the public who wish to view the plans can visit our planning online tool, using reference number TWC/2011/0847 https://secure.telford.gov.uk/planning/search-reference.aspx . Alternatively plans will be available to view at Telford & Wrekin Council’s Offices at Darby House.

Comments can be submitted in writing to the Telford & Wrekin Council’s Planning Department, Darby House, Lawn Central, Telford, TF3 4LB. Enquiries can be made by contacting the planning team 01952 380380.
