Cllr Keith Barrow said: “We welcome this investment by Coverage Care in the new care facilities to be provided on this site here in Oswestry and the 50 new jobs that the new care home will create when it is opened.”

The new home is due to open in early 2013 and will have 88 ensuite rooms and the latest care and nursing facilities to support older people. When complete, the 40 residents from the existing Fairholme care home on Morda Road will transfer to the new home to be known as New Fairholme.

New Fairholme is being constructed by the Castlemead Group from Wrexham for Shrewsbury based Coverage Care, who operate the existing Fairholme and look after some 1500 mainly older people in Shropshire on a not for profit basis.

Chief Executive of Coverage Care David Coull said: “We are extremely pleased to see the start of construction of our latest care home, which like other new homes recently constructed in Whitchurch, Telford and Bridgnorth, will provide both residential and nursing care for residents. This offers a much more flexible approach to providing care and means residents should not have to move as their care requirements change,”

“The increasing proportion of older people living in the Oswestry area is already putting existing care services under pressure and the new home has received positive support from local organisations, in particular from the Oswestry Health Group”.

“As a not for profit organisation, we exist to provide a full range of community services for older people and we are committed to investing in Shropshire and are pleased that this new care home will enhance the care services available in Oswestry” added Mr Coull.

Coverage Care currently operates 17 care centres in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin and employs 800 staff who provide a range of care services for more than1500 mainly older people.
