Damage running into thousands of pounds has been caused to property at allotments in Shrewsbury.

Vandals cause thousands of pounds worth of damage to Shrewsbury allotments

Three sheds were set on fire and six beehives were pushed over and badly damaged.

Police are investigating the damage at the allotments off Telford Way which happened between 5.30pm on Saturday and 11.40am Sunday.

Three sheds were set alight and their contents destroyed resulting in about £2,000 damage. And six beehives kept on one allotment were pushed over and damaged, causing at least £1,000 damage. The owner is attempting to transfer the hibernating bees to other hives which he fears may not now survive the winter.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "This appears to be wanton vandalism. We are appealing for any information which might help identify the culprits. Contact Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000."

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
