A Ludlow housing project focused on providing stability, support and new skills to young people is to hold an open day showcasing its work.

Ludlow young people's centre to throw open its doors

Ludlow Foyer will welcome VIPs and business leaders from around the town on Thursday with displays of the work and achievements of its residents.

And in a hands-on twist, some of those residents will be demonstrating their skills by providing the refreshments for the day, as part of a cooking demonstration, led by a professional tutor, that will produce fresh canapes and cakes.

Mayor of Ludlow, Councillor John Aiken, chose the Foyer as his official charity for 2011 and will be among the VIP guests.

Ludlow Foyer last year marked ten successful years in the town, providing a residential base that supports 16 to 25-year-olds in preparing themselves for independent life by tailoring training programmes to their needs and, where appropriate, supporting them in achieving new qualifications.

The centre is supported by South Shropshire Housing Association, part of the Shropshire Housing Group.

Foyer manager, Kim Skinner, said: “We rely on the good will and backing of many individuals, organisations and business in Ludlow to be able to give our residents the widest range of experiences. Their support is tremendous and the open day will be our way of sharing with them the obvious benefits of their help. It will also enable us to demonstrate to other businesses how they could be getting involved for the good of Ludlow's young people. There are benefits in what we do that extend across the community.

“I know our residents are looking forward to showing our visitors what they have achieved. They have every right to be proud of their skills, which are many and varied.”

Ludlow Foyer will open its doors between 12pm and 2pm on Thursday, with town residents and business people welcome to drop-in for a look around and to try the freshly prepared food. Anyone wishing to attend should inform the Foyer staff by calling 01584 877111.
