A teenager has been robbed whilst walking along a footpath in Wellington.

Teenager robbed whilst walking in Wellington

The 17-year-old girl was robbed whilst walking along the footpath that leads from Wrekin College towards Leegomery and an underpass on Whitchurch Drive between 12.40pm and 1pm yesterday.

Whilst walking the teenager was approached by an unknown man who shouted ‘Give me your bag', at the victim.

However, before the victim could hand the bag over, a man and a woman walked past the scene without realising what was going on.

Once the two people were out of ear shot the unknown man asked the victim to open her bag up for him. The victim did as she was told and the man grabbed her purse from the bag and took a £20 note and a £5 note out of it.

The man then told the victim to walk away from him, to keep walking and to not turn round to look which direction he made off in.

The victim did exactly as she was told and then made her way home before calling the police.
A police spokesman said:

"The young girl has been left very shaken by this incident but she has been able to describe the man that robbed her.

"The offender is described as being of Asian origin, aged in his early 20s, as being around 5ft 10inches tall and as having short hair.

"She also describes him as having a beige, ‘Burberry' style scarf covering his face and as wearing a tracksuit.

"Investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about this incident, but are particularly
keen to trace the man and woman who walked past the young girl and the offender as the incident was taking place.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police in Telford on 0300 333 3000. Alternatively, please remember that information can also be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather not get directly involved yourself."
