Three arrested as police carry out dugs warrants in Shrewsbury

A 61-year-old man and a woman aged 41, were taken into custody on suspicion of possessing cannabis, a Class B controlled drug, with intent to supply.

They were arrested by police who searched a home in Wingfield Close. Substances believed to be herbal and cannabis resin together with several other items, were seized from the property.

A second search warrant was conducted at another home in Wingfield Close, where a 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply. Substances believed to be herbal cannabis were found at the premises.

Local Policing Sergeant Julie Shephard said about 15 officers were involved in the operation, carried out at around 9.30am. The three arrested were taken to Shrewsbury police station for questioning.

The warrants were the latest in a growing number carried out by police under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Sergeant Shephard said: "Further actions are planned in both the Shrewsbury area and other parts of the county as we continue to put pressure on those suspected of being involved with illegal drugs.

"Tackling illegal drugs and associated crime is a top priority for the police and we welcome any information from members of the public which might help us.

"People can phone Shrewsbury police station on 101 to pass on information in strict confidence if they suspect drug activity is taking place in their neighbourhood."
