Proposals to change speed limits on some routes in Shrewsbury were yesterday revealed by Shropshire Council.

New speed limits proposed for Shrewsbury roads

Shrewsbury residents now have an opportunity to make comments on the proposals which are being put forward to help improve the safety of roads and road users.

The revised speed limits being considered are:

The Mount - Extending the 30mph speed limit from the existing 30 to Shelton.

Sundorne Road - From Welti Roundabout to midway between Welti Roundabout and Sundorne Roundabout.

Hereford Road - From the existing 30mph to just before the traffic signals.

Welshpool Road - From Oxon Business Park Roundabout to Shepherds Lane, Somerby Drive, and Little Oxon Lane.

London Road - Extending the 40mph speed limit on London Road to Emstrey Roundabout.

Wenlock Road - Introducing a 40mph speed limit on Wenlock Road from Weeping Cross Roundabout to the existing 30mph.

A49 at Upper Battlefield - Extending the 50mph speed limit to the Battlefield Roundabout.

Thieves Lane - Introducing a 50mph speed limit on Thieves Lane, the A458 from Weeping Cross Roundabout to Betton Strange junction, Weeping Cross Roundabout, and Pulley Lane.

Councillor Simon Jones, Cabinet member with responsibility for traffic management, said:

“The revised speed limits on these lengths of road will assist in reducing the likelihood of danger to all road users and pedestrians, and assist in preserving the amenities of the area. We want to involve the local community and welcome comments on these proposals.”
