New homes nearing completion at Dothill

The exciting new Wrekin Housing Trust homes at the Dothill site in Telford are nearing completion.

The Trust is redeveloping the Dothill site in Wellington to provide 59 brand new homes, with the first phase being completed and handed to the Trust from developer Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) recently. The first four homes to be completed are two and three-bedroom houses, two of which are available for rent and two for shared ownership through the Trust’s InReach scheme. A mixture of houses, apartments and maisonettes will follow on this modern new development.

The homes have been developed to replace the Brieden Flats that stood on the site and in total will provide 43 homes for affordable rent, five InReach shared ownership homes (with the option to rent first and buy later), five Homebuy Direct* properties and six houses for sale.

The site has been a great source of opportunities for local people, with construction workshops, site visits and competitions for local schools as well as placements for trades apprentices from The Wrekin Housing Trust and FHM. Overall nine apprentices have been given the chance to work onsite alongside skilled tradespeople, learning all about the construction trade and sustainability in new developments.

The latest to benefit from this opportunity are two employees of The Wrekin Housing Trust, Jamie Lewis and Shaun Smith. Jamie completed an electrical apprenticeship with the Trust last year and is now gaining further experience in electrical work on a large site, as well as other skills such as plastering and plumbing. Shaun is in the second year of his apprenticeship with the Trust and is working onsite while studying for an NVQ.

For more information on The Wrekin Housing Trust please visit www.wrekinhousingtrust.org.uk and for information on the houses available at Dothill visit www.wrekinhousingtrust.org.uk/business/DothillForSale.aspx

*Homebuy Direct allows customers to buy a minimum of 70% of the market value of the property, with an equity loan of up to 30% provided to assist the purchase.
