Hotshots awards ceremony for children in care
The achievements of children and young people in care in Telford and Wrekin have been celebrated at a special awards ceremony.

More than 100 children and young people, who are either in care or have left care, attended this year’s ceremony which was held at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place.
Children and young people were recognised in a range of categories including Personal Achievement, Being Involved, Making Changes, Thinking of Others, Recreation and Educational Achievement. There was also a Special Award for outstanding achievement and a “Best Shot” Award.
This year’s ceremony, called Hot Shots, was hosted by two young people in care.
They introduced onto stage a range of dignitaries from Telford & Wrekin Council, including the Borough Mayor Councillor Malcolm Smith, Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People & Families, and Interim Chief Executive Richard Partington.
The evening was lit up with performances of street dance from children and young people and a taste of “Carnival Chaos” as well as some solo performances.
Councillor Paul Watling said: “This awards ceremony is a celebration of the success and achievements of children and young people who are either in the care of Telford & Wrekin Council or are recent care leavers.
“It is a time to acknowledge that, regardless of circumstances, these children and young people work hard, think of others, get involved and achieve great things.
“The Awards Ceremony is our opportunity to thank them for their sheer hard work and to celebrate their achievements.
“We can assure you that in these difficult times for local government services we in Telford and Wrekin will put the children and young people in greatest need at the centre of our priorities.”
This is the tenth year that Telford & Wrekin Council has held a ceremony to celebrate the achievements of children and young people in care.
