Carbon results demonstrate Telford & Wrekin Council’s environmental credentials
The publication of the first Carbon Reduction Commitment league table has placed Telford & Wrekin Council at number 304 out of 2100 public and private organisations.

The league table ranks the United Kingdom’s leading public and private sector organisations by the work they have done to date on carbon management.
The CRC is the UK’s first carbon ‘cap and trade’ scheme which requires organisations to report the carbon emissions that result from buildings energy usage.
Telford & Wrekin Council reported emissions of 26,628 tonnes from the usage of gas, electricity and oil within its property portfolio which includes schools, libraries and leisure centres.
The authority achieved an early action metric score of 57% due to the work done installing smart utility meters and for having obtained the Carbon Trust Standard in April 2010.
The Standard is only awarded to organisations that have consistently reduced carbon emissions over the previous three years and must be able to demonstrate good carbon management practices.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Environment, Co-operative Council and Partnerships, said: “Our performance in the CRC league table is a fantastic achievement which demonstrates that environmental sustainability is one of the key priorities of the Council.
“The accomplishment is even more impressive when you consider the diverse range of properties that we operate throughout the borough, including many listed buildings.
“We have cut our carbon emissions by 2.5 per cent over the last three years by undertaking projects including replacing oil boilers with biomass, installing insulation and upgrading to energy efficient lighting.
“This reduction has also led to significant financial savings which is particularly important as energy prices continue to rise dramatically.”
