Extra police patrols are being carried out in an area of Telford after thieves stole 44 brass plates from outside homes in Telford.

Thieves target brass plates on Telford homes

Thieves struck at addresses in the Lightmoor Village area including Stocking Park Road, Little Green Road and Fur Long Green overnight on Sunday.

A total of 38 homes were targeted and 44 individual brass plates were stolen from front doors, garage doors and gated areas.

Householders woke to find their door numbers had been unscrewed from where they were originally displayed.

Police are investigating the incidents and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "It appears that during the night and early hours of Sunday into Monday thieves targeted a number of addresses in the Lightmoor Village area, stealing brass plates from outside properties, garages and gates.

"Thieves unscrewed the brass plates before making off.

"It is believed thieves may have tried or will try to sell the plates onto scrap dealers.

"We would urge scrap dealers to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to police.

"We also want to hear from any residents who saw or heard anything that could help us with our enquiries."

She added: "Extra police patrols are being carried out in the area to catch those responsible and to reassure residents. Crime prevention advice to householders is also being given."

Anyone with information should contact Telford Police on the new non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
