A 74-year-old Shrewsbury man has been attacked whilst making his way home in the town.

Shrewsbury pensioner attacked in attempted robbery

The attack happened outside the Coton Manor flats on Berwick Road between 6.30pm and 7.40pm on Friday.

The pensioner was attacked from behind, grabbed by the throat and his arm twisted up his back.

His attacker demanded money but then fled empty-handed after the two men lost balance and fell into some shrubs.

The pensioner was shaken but unhurt.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident or who might have seen the victim being followed by the man along Coton Hill Road.

Information can be phoned to Shrewsbury CID on the 101 non emergency number, or passed to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
