£2.3m Hadley regeneration plans submitted by council
Telford & Wrekin Council has submitted plans for £2.3m regeneration of Hadley – which will include the building of a new Tesco Express food store.

The council has been working closely with Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council and local residents to develop a scheme for the centre to bring about much needed regeneration.
It has now submitted two planning applications as part of the same regeneration scheme – one being a detailed application for a mixed use commercial development, the other an outline application for a residential development.
Funding has been approved for Phase One; plans include the demolition of a number of shops and maisonettes. These are to be replaced by six new shops and a Tesco Express food store. Phase Two, subject to further funding, will include a further three mixed use units and 24 new homes.

These proposals will provide a well located, modern shopping provision to serve the local community and will replace the deteriorating Gladstone House.
Subject to a planning approval demolition should begin early summer 2012 with construction to commence immediately after. All commercial units within Phase Two (charity shop, pharmacy, veterinary practice, Wrekin Housing Trust office, martial arts centre and Post Office) will continue to trade as usual.
Councillor Richard Overton, cabinet member for Borough Towns Development and Policy, said: “This is an exciting development for people living in Hadley and is a much needed regeneration scheme.
“As always, we will be carrying out a thorough consultation as part of the planning process.
“If it all goes ahead, further plans as part of the scheme include enhanced parking arrangements and much improved public areas that can be enjoyed by residents.”
Councillor Malcolm Smith, Chairman of Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council, said: “The Parish Council is very pleased that detailed plans have now been submitted and looks forward to seeing this much needed regeneration begin in 2012.
“We will continue to work in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council to see this project delivered”.
The proposed residential land will then be sold with outline planning permission for 24 units to a developer.
The council is also in discussions with traders at the popular weekly market to ensure they continue to trade successfully.
The application is due to be determined by 6 February 2012. Funding for the first phase of the scheme is currently in place but future phases will depend on money becoming available in the council’s budget.
