Police in Shrewsbury are trying to trace four boys who knocked a 10-year-old boy off his bike and then kicked him in the stomach.

Four boys attack 10-year-old in Shrewsbury

The youngster suffered grazing after catching his chin on a roadside crash barrier as he fell. He was then kicked by one of the group before they ran off.

The assault happened at around 8.25am today as the boy cycled to school along Pritchard Way between the Sainsbury roundabout and the cinema roundabout on Old Potts Way.

Police Constable Damien Kelly, the investigating officer, said; "There is no apparent reason for the assault. The four lads were wearing hoodies and aged about 12 or 13.

"It happened near the pedestrian underpass from Reabrook Avenue leading to the Rea Brook. They moved out of his way to let him pass and then one of them pushed him off his bike, causing him to hit his chin on the crash barrier as he fell.

"Fortunately, he was not seriously hurt but he was understandably upset and thankfully he didn't fall over the barrier into the road."

PC Kelly said the road was busy at the time and urged passersby to contact the police if they saw the incident.

"I am appealing for any information which will help me identify the four youngsters involved. Ideally, I would like their families to contact the police so the matter can be quickly resolved.

"Information should be given to Shrewsbury police station by calling the non emergency 101 number, or by contacting the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111," he added.
