Shropshire road closed at two lorries collide near Alberbury

The collision involving two highways maintainance vehicles near Alberbury Village Hall occurred around 12.55pm.

Fire service personnel released one of the drivers from his vehicle, he was airlifted to hospital. The other driver was taken to hospital via land ambulance.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival crews found two lorries which had been in collision.

“The driver of one lorry, a man believed to be in his 50s, was trapped in his cab and had suffered lower limb injuries. Crews and the medic administered pain relief to the man and worked with the fire service to carefully extricate him from the vehicle, which took around 45 minutes. The man continued to receive medical treatment throughout and was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board before being airlifted to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

“The second driver, a man in his 50s, was out of his vehicle and walking around when emergency services arrived but had sustained a head injury in the crash. Due to the damage caused to the vehicles, crews immobilised the man with a neck collar and spinal board as a precaution and conveyed him to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by land ambulance for further assessment.

While the road is closed, traffic is being diverted via the A458, A483, B4393 and vice versa.
