Telford Town Park memorial honours dedication of Marine
A memorial took place in Telford Town Park this morning to recognise and honour a local Marine who lost his life while serving in Afghanistan.

Marine Damian Davies, born in 1981, was brought up in the Trench/Wrockwardine Wood area and attended local schools including Teagues Bridge, St Matthews in Donnington and Wrockwardine Wood School.
Marine Davies was part of the Commando Logistic Regiment, and lost his life while he was serving in Sangin, Afghanistan on 12 December 2008. He left behind his wife Joanne and son Matthew, parents Maddison and Ken, brothers Carl, Austin and Warren and sister Ceri.
The ceremony today was marked by the placing of a plaque on a tree within Telford Town Park which forms part of the Remembrance Memorial.
The memorial was attended by the Mayor of the borough of Telford & Wrekin, as well as Joanne Davies, and Maddie and Ken Davies (Damian’s mother and father).
Maddie Davies was instrumental in the request to have his name form part of the Remembrance Memorial in the Town Park.
Cllr Malcolm Smith, Mayor of the borough of Telford & Wrekin, said: “I was honoured to attend the memorial this morning and have the opportunity to say a few words about an extraordinary marine who gave his life for his country and indeed his county.
“I for one am truly grateful for the sacrifice this young marine made as I’m sure everyone within Telford and Wrekin are as well.
“I wish his family all the best for the future and am happy that they have somewhere to come and remember him and all he achieved.”
